Community Grief & Gratitude Project

An invitation to the Boulder community

A collective project to name, release, and see our grief.

Since 2020, we have held this space every winter for the Boulder community to presence things we are grieving alongside things we are grateful for — often noticing the interconnectedness between these feelings.

Bring your grief and gratitude to this collective space.

Opening Ritual

Friday Dec 26
12:00 PM
Join us at the bridge for the opening of this community project.

Closing Ritual

Saturday Jan 11
12:00 PM

Gather at the bridge to remove the ribbons and offer them to the water

Note: We don’t actually release the ribbons into the creek, just rinse them in it.

This project takes place at the bridge over Boulder Creek that is just south of Canyon Drive between Broadway and the Boulder Public Library. (here on Google Maps)

Details & Guidelines

Ribbons are provided at the bridge, and you are welcome to make your own ribbons from old sheets or other repurposed materials and bring them to the bridge. Art Parts is a great source for used ribbon. Ribbons should be about 3 feet long. Invite others in your community(s), including friends and family from outside Boulder, to join you.

If you want to create ribbons but can’t get to the bridge, please contact us and we can hang them for you. Email us at communitygriefandgratitude@gmail.com.

On January 11, 2026 we will remove the ribbons. Ribbons from the past three years have been woven into spirals which we hope to have displayed.
